Grinner: the god of spasmodic laughter
The Grinner (Grinius) is the titular protagonist/antagonist of the Grinnerverse saga.
It is a demonic entity whose power draws from the grinnerforce, a source of energy born from the biological and emotional response of sentient beings to tickling.
For millennia, the Grinner has manipulated human history by encouraging the discovery and spread of tickling across the world. Over the centuries, the Grinner’s followers have practiced various forms of tickle-torture with the purpose of offering the victims’ precious laughter to their lord, receiving longevity, health, and specific magical abilities in return.
Aspect and personality
The Grinner can assume multiple forms, although it is always tied in some way to a purple feline-like creature.
The Grinner is a malevolent, extremely sadistic entity that draws power and pleasure from the suffering of people subjected to tickling. Its followers share a similar nature: power-hungry, cruel individuals who enjoy forcing victims into ruthless tickling sessions.
The Grinner loves being worshipped and receiving laughter dedicated to it, although this alone is not always enough to summon the entity or persuade it to grant one’s desires, especially when the summoning is carried out by subjects unsuited to it or under improper conditions.
The Grinner is particularly attracted to the grinnerforce produced by individuals belonging to the “Tempest Line,” the hereditary bloodline descending from Lilith and Luciferyne.
These individuals possess great courage and latent magical power, making the laughter taken from them by force even more valuable and invigorating for the entity.
Powers and abilities
The Grinner is a semi-divine being endowed with an extensive range of magical powers.
It resides within the Grinnerverse, a metaphysical dimension fueled by grinnerforce, the emotional energy generated by the clash between despair and amusement experienced by those being tickled.
This vital energy partly permeates Earth in the form of “T-Vibes,” which accumulate within flora and fauna but especially within an exceptionally receptive mineral known as Grinnium.
Grinnium can be summoned, possess specific victims, or grant particular abilities (elemental control, alchemical manipulation, longevity…) to those who offer it the laughter of victims by using special grinnium artifacts such as the Heart of Grinius, the Eye of Grinius, or the Masque Souriant.
Origins
The Grinner was born as Grinius several thousand years ago from the laughter of Hera, Lady of Olympus, who was subjected to tickle-torture by a cursed throne in which she had been trapped by Hephaestus.
The magical force and the mixture of hilarity and despair felt by the goddess condensed into the form of Grinius, a malevolent entity hungry for the energy produced by humans under tickling duress.
Gelos, god of laughter, quickly recognized the danger it represented, and in the following centuries he blessed certain descendants of Luciferyne and Lilith so they could unlock their latent powers and fight the creature.
Thus the Laughter Slayers were born, heroes capable of battling evil manifested through laughter.
Across the centuries, Grinius revealed itself to various sadistic individuals seeking power, promising the fulfillment of their desires in exchange for the sacrifice of devoted laughter extracted through tickle-torture. In this way, various forms of the Cult of Grinner emerged, practicing in secret every manner of tickling-based torture to honor their lord.
