Tickling scenes in “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid”

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is an anime centered around Kobayashi, a normal office worker and programmer who lives alone. One day, after a drunken encounter in the mountains, she saves a dragon who can transform into a human girl named Tohru. Tohru decides to live with Kobayashi and serve as her maid, despite often causing more trouble than help with her unorthodox and sometimes intimidating behavior. Tohru falls deeply in love with Kobayashi and refuses to return to her dragon world.

The story further develops as other dragons, gods, and mythical beings, including Kanna, Fafnir, Lucoa, and Ilulu, arrive, attracted by Tohru’s presence. Kanna, an exiled dragon, demands Tohru be returned but eventually forms a bond with Kobayashi, seeing her as a maternal figure. Ilulu initially wants to kill Tohru but changes after being saved by Kobayashi and Tohru, eventually living peacefully with them. The anime weaves themes of coexistence, family, and acceptance through these characters’ interactions.

Tickling scenes in “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid”

In Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime, season 2 episode 9 “There Are Various Reasons Behind It (It’s Full of Elma)”,  there is a notable tickle scene involving the characters Tohru and Elma. In this scene, both dragons get tickled on their feet as part of a challenge where they have to try not to laugh. The tickling is done by other characters, including Kanna and Ilulu, creating a playful and cute moment. This scene highlights the lighthearted and comedic tone of the series, showing the characters in a fun and relaxed interaction outside of the main fantasy and slice-of-life elements.

The context of the scene is that Tohru (the blonde girl) and Elma (the girl with one horn) were having a competition to see who could hold their laughter back the longest. The reason is because in the episode, before the tickle scene, they had a large battle that ended with a draw, so they had another competition to try and settle things. But it ultimately led to another draw between them when they both laughed at the same time.

Tohru (a dragon maid for a business worker named Miss Kobayashi) appears to angrily stare and growl at Elma (another dragon who was once friends with Tohru, before they had a falling out years ago.) 

Elma appears to angrily growl back. 

The two of them stare at each other in anger, only for them to suddenly gasp as they puff their cheeks up together. 

It turns out that they were not angry, they were concentrating hard because they were having a competition where their bare feet were being tickled, and they had to resist laughing. Kanna tickles Torhu’s feet while Ilulu tickles Elma’s feet. 

The two dragons make funny noises as they desperately try to resist the urge to laugh, as their feet jitter, flinch and twitch in place. 

But ultimately, they can’t hold back, as they both laugh together in unison, kicking their legs around as they continue to be tickled.

Kobayashi, who was watching the whole time, declares the competition to be another draw, as the scene ends with more tickling of dragon feet.

This scene is an anime exclusive, and has no anime counterpart.
