
Asterix is a renowned French comic book series created by writer René Goscinny and artist Albert Uderzo, debuting in 1959 in the magazine Pilote. Set in 50 BCE during Roman occupation of Gaul, it centers on a small village of indomitable Gauls who resist invaders using a magic potion brewed by their druid Getafix, granting superhuman strength. The main characters, the clever warrior Asterix and his massive friend Obelix (who is permanently super-strong from an childhood accident), embark on humorous adventures across ancient Europe and beyond.

In the inaugural Asterix adventure, “Asterix the Gaul,” Romans capture Panoramix (Getafix) and subject him to a humorous form of interrogation by tying him up and tickling his feet with a feather to extract information about the village’s magic potion.
