Tickling scenes in "Chepe Fortuna"

Chepe Fortuna is a Colombian traditional comedy telenovela produced by RCN Televisión in 2010 and 2011. The story follows José “Chepe” Fortuna, a young fisherman and leader of the neighborhood “El Tiburón,” who dreams of becoming mayor to lift his people out of poverty and provide them with a better future. Chepe was born with the gift of interpreting people’s dreams but has never been able to understand the meaning of his own.

Niña Cabrales, a sweet and beautiful young woman from one of the wealthiest families on the Colombian coast, returns from Spain with plans to implement ecological projects and help the fishermen of “El Tiburón.” Though they do not know each other personally, Chepe and Niña dream of each other, connected by a past event involving a shipwreck and family sacrifices. Their growing love is challenged by political struggles, economic interests, and family conflicts, including opposition from Aníbal Conrado, Niña’s fiancé and a corrupt mayoral candidate, who seeks to control the town and Niña’s inheritance. The story also involves complex alliances, betrayals, and multiple family dramas with the powerful Cabrales and Conrado families clashing with the humble residents of “El Tiburón”

In Chapter 97, Malvina visits her mother-in-law Ursula in the hospital, disguised as a nurse. Taking advantage of the fact that the woman is ill and unable to move, she begins to tickle her to torture her in revenge for the abuse she has suffered. Distracted by a phone call, Malvina continues to tickle her feet excessively, causing the woman to die of a heart attack. She tells the doctor that she was making the lady laugh with a joke.

Malvina (to her mother-in-law): Ay, suegrita, it pains me to see you like this. It can’t be— (cries, then laughs) —I thought God had taken you, but you survived!
(Ursula moans)
Malvina: It’s true. I can’t believe it. You can’t speak? Not even a single word? You really can’t? Oh! Ha! (laughs)

Malvina: Of course it pains me, suegrita, because, you know… the sweetest thing was listening to you insult me. Anyway, now it’s my turn to insult you, but the hardest task is yours—staying quiet. Now you’ll know who the “tasteless bumpkin” is that you insulted so much. Do you hear me? I’ve come to collect. I’m going to feed you until you get so fat you explode, you decrepit old woman. I’ll tickle you like this, yes. It’ll do us both some good to have a few laughs and some fun.

(The phone rings)

Malvina (on the phone): Hello? I’m here at the hospital with my mother-in-law.

Man (on the phone): Machita, everything’s gone to hell, my love. Imagine—Nina already found out that Chepe got Yanira pregnant.

Malvina: No… how did she find out?

Man: I’ve got the Shark’s informant planted at my sister’s house—she told me everything.

Malvina: That can’t be! And how’s Nina?

Man: You can imagine how that poor girl is suffering. I practically gave her my shoulder so she could cry it all out. I just got home. No joke—and the worst part is, she was finally getting over everything.

Malvina: Well, it was about time. So what are you going to do?

Man: What am I going to do? I’m planning to go to the Shark’s neighborhood and see that bastard’s face myself.

Malvina: By now he must be pale as a ghost.

Man: Ay, look who’s talking. But from now on, my luck’s coming in strong. And my love, when are you thinking of giving me a little haircut?

Malvina: Ha! Are you crazy? Never!

(The heart monitor flatlines)

Malvina: (gasps) Oh no! The old lady!

Man: I knew you were there with that old hag.

Woman: No, idiot—she’s dead! I was tickling her feet, real gentle, and poof—she just stopped breathing!

Man: Shit, how could you do something like that? They’re gonna pin that death on you.

Malvina: Imbecile, she’s dead, it’s over.

(She steps into the hallway, shouting)

Malvina: Ay, Dr. Rivera! Dr. Rivera! My mother-in-law! My mother-in-law is dead! Ay, I was telling her a little joke, and she started laughing, and I think she went into shock! Ay, my poor mother-in-law!
