Renée O’Connor is an American actress, director, and producer best known worldwide for her role as Gabrielle, the loyal companion to Xena in the hit television series “Xena: Warrior Princess.”
Born Evelyn Renée O’Connor on February 15, 1971, in Texas, she began acting at a young age—first in theater productions and later in commercials and television. Her early work included a regular stint on the Disney Channel’s “The Mickey Mouse Club” segment “Teen Angel” and a role in “The Adventures of Huck Finn.” Her breakout moment came when she was cast as Deianeira in the TV movie “Hercules and the Lost Kingdom,” which led to her casting as Gabrielle in “Xena: Warrior Princess” from 1995 to 2001. This role made her a prominent figure in pop culture and garnered her a devoted fanbase.
After “Xena,” O’Connor continued her career both in front of and behind the camera. She founded her own film production company, ROC Productions, producing, directing, and starring in independent films such as “Diamonds and Guns” and short films like “Words Unspoken.” She also took on various roles in TV movies and independent films, including “Boogeyman 2,” “Alien Apocalypse,” “Monster Ark,” and “A Question of Faith.” On stage, she has performed as Lady Macbeth in “Macbeth” and the Nurse in “Romeo and Juliet,” demonstrating her broad versatility as an actress.
