Chainsaw Man is a manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It follows Denji, a poor young man burdened with debt who merges with a dog-like Chainsaw Devil named Pochita after being killed. This fusion transforms Denji into the Chainsaw Man, a devil-human hybrid capable of turning parts of his body into chainsaws. After this transformation, Denji is recruited by Makima to join the Public Safety Devil Hunters, where he fights devils while pursuing simple personal desires like love and happiness. Denji is characterized by his straightforward goals, naïve personality, and tragic background. He is aided by other characters such as Power, a chaotic Blood Fiend, and Aki, a serious mentor figure. The series combines intense action with deep character development and a unique blend of horror and surreal elements.
In chapter 149 of Chainsaw Man, titled “Devil’s Choice,” the chapter centers around Denji, Nayuta, and Fumiko observing from an alley as a preacher incites a crowd to oppose Chainsaw Man. The crowd shows strong fear and hatred towards Chainsaw Man, influenced by a burned Chainsaw Devil’s corpse displayed by the preacher. The chapter reflects growing societal tensions and fear of devils, including Chainsaw Man, as the public shifts from initially supporting Denji to opposing him. The preacher claims that his early predictions of a war between humans and devils were correct, and urges humanity to unite against Chainsaw Man and his allies. The chapter portrays the escalation of conflict and the complicated dynamics between devils, devil hunters, and humans.
Nayuta is tickled in chapter 149 in order to appease her fury.
