Tickling Artists #42: Interview with Maniys

1) Do you want to tell us something about yourself and your art?

Hi, On the web I’m known as Manyis or Animation Tk04 (on YouTube)

I’m an Italian guy passionate about comics, manga and video games, I started drawing 5 years ago, I’d like to be able to do a job about drawing.

2) What techniques do you use to draw? Do you have a favorite artist that inspires you?

For my illuminations I draw mainly digitally, lately in my works I have taken inspiration from the works of Billvicius, a tickle artist well known on DeviantArt, I really like the composition and management of space in his works.

3) How much was the passion for drawing born in you? And the one for the tickle?

I’ve had a passion for drawing since I was a child, but I decided to apply myself professionally 5 years ago. I’ve had a passion for tickling since I was a teenager. I understood this because I really liked tickling scenes in movies or cartoons/anime.

4) What are the tickling scenarios that you prefer to draw?

Honestly I don’t have a preference, I like all the tickling scenarios I’ve drawn so far. But I have some characters that I prefer to draw.

5) What are the aspects of tickling that you intend to represent with your art? Example: the laughing, the wriggling, the relationship between tickler and ticklee?

Of course, laughter is definitely a key point, but I really like to focus on the characters’ expressions, both face and body. I have to make it clear that the character who is being tickled is really suffering from it.

6) Online there are countless photos and videos of tickling sessions. In your opinion, what do illustrations offer more than images of real scenes?

As a spectator I can say that with illustrations you go beyond what is in reality, with drawing I can create every scenario I have in my head. There are things that unfortunately are not achievable in reality but in the world of illustration they become possible. And this isn’t just about tickling.

7) In your opinion, what makes tickling so interesting for fans of this phenomenon?

What I like most about tickling is the spontaneous reactions of those who suffer it. Laughter, impulsive movements, sensations, are all elements that make tickling an interesting and fun practice. A pleasant little torture!

8) What are your works of which you are most proud?

I like all the illustrations and work I do, but in particular I’m proud to have made Tickle Warriors, an animated series that I created on my YouTube channel. Entirely based on Tickling. It was hard work, perhaps the hardest I’ve done, but I’m proud of the follow-up and the positive appreciation I’ve received.

9) Do you have any particular artistic goals for the future?

Yes, I started my artistic journey with animations and I stopped a few years ago. To devote myself to illustration. I’d like to go back to doing animations, since so many people ask me to come back, and maybe that day is not so far away.

10) Do you think AIs will end up enriching or impoverishing the art of tickling representations?

It depends on how you use it. For me Ai Art is a tool that can help those who are already a good artist, but those who are not or are still learning cannot rely only on this tool, I have seen many tickle-themed works made with AI to an inexperienced eye they look beautiful, but those who are more practical in drawing can more easily notice all the errors and defects they have.So in my opinion: AI can improve an artist but it can’t make an artist who isn’t.
